Benguet, Sept. 19 (PIA) - - The 2013 North Luzon Science and Technology
(S&T) Fair is set to open at the Benguet State University here on September
30.
To be hosted by the
Department of Science and Technology Cordillera Regional Office (DOST-CAR), in
partnership with DOST regions 1 and 2 and the department’s Technology
Application and Promotions Institute (TAPI-DOST), the event adopts the theme,
“Science Technology and Innovation: The Road Towards a Smarter North Luzon”.
DOST-Cordillera
Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat disclosed that the event, which will run
until October 4, aims to promote DOST’s programs, projects and activities and
the department’s recent research and development breakthroughs, as well as to
provide support to various DOST cooperators through the conduct of a technology
bazaar and to promote development in the Northern Luzon S&T cluster.
Expected partners
and participants in the event are the Department of Education, the Commission
on Higher Education, local research and development institutes, state colleges
and universities and other higher educational institutions.
For the scheduled
North Luzon S&T Fair, the DOST in coordination with the Philippine
Information Agency-Cordillera Regional Office will be hold a kapihan media
forum after the official ribbon cutting
and program.
To be featured
during the said S&T Fair are exhibit and techno-bazaar, viewing of S&T
interactive exhibits including the Philippine Atmospheric, Geo-physical,
Astronomical Services Administration’s Mobile Planetarium and DOST’s Project
NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards)
A daily S&T
forum as well as seminars for Science and Math teachers will also be featured
during the fair. There will also be robotics competition and S&T trivia
contest for high school and college students for the five-day event.
The S & T Fair
is in line with the country’s celebration of National Science and Technology
Week (NSTW), which aims to highlight the critical role of Science and
Technology, in keeping the Philippines on track in facing global challenges and
in the country’s goal of bringing in sustainable development and inclusive
