BAGUIO CITY, June 17
(PIA) -- A shopping mall in Baguio City unveiled the largest Philippine flag
made of flowers during the Independence Day celebration last week.
City officials led
by Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas together with SM officials and other guests
unveiled the 11 x 22 feet Philippine flag made out of thousands flowers at the
SM City Atrium as part the Independence Day celebration in this city.

Relations Officer Karen Padilla said that the Philippine flag made of flowers
was an idea to promote historic Baguio which is known for its flowers and the
Baguio Flower Festival.
Padilla said that
the flag was only made in 24 hours by 16 local gardeners, florists and artists
who are also makers of the popular floral floats during the Panagbenga
festivities.
At least 16,000
Malaysian mums and 14,000 roses from the flower gardens and farms in Benguet
were used in making the largest floral flag which was displayed at the SM City
Atrium for public viewing.
Padilla said that
they also created a Philippine map made from coffee beans and heirloom red rice
to showcase coffee and rice as emerging industry in the Cordillera region. The
Philippine map was placed near the mall’s entrance.
She said that the
unique idea of a floral flag and a map made of coffee and rice is the mall’s
way in promoting the different indigenous and products of the provinces in the
