How to Select a Vacation Apartment

Staying in a rented property instead of a hotel can give you more space and additional privacy while you enjoy your vacation. Many people rent an apartment, house, condo or other type of dwelling when they go away to feel like they have a home away from home. Most coastal destinations have plenty of rental properties to offer in every price range, size and just near to the beach. Choose a vacation rental by planning out what you want in a rental, establishing a budget and reviewing the properties available on the rental market.

Start Planning Early

Plan your vacation in advance. Some vacation rentals are booked six months to a year ahead. You can always book last minute for ultimate vacation rental deals, but that’s a difficult way to go about things. Instead, think ahead and book ahead. This gives you plenty of time to determine whether or not a vacation rental is right for you. Once you’ve picked a destination, look through the site for available vacation rentals. Many owners feature an availability calendar, so use this to rule out vacation rentals that are booked for your dates. Some vacationers prefer to choose a destination after they choose a vacation rental.

Decide what you want

Imagine your ideal vacation rental. Does it have five bedrooms or just one? Do you need a fully equipped kitchen or will a partial kitchenette be good enough. Will your pets feel welcomed in it? Does it have a swimming pool for the kids to splash around in? Is it close to attractions or away from distractions? Do you take taxis or is it important to be near public transportation. What district, urban or rural, do you want a house or a high-rise. What about shops and services maybe a park, river or ocean. Make sure you list everything you can think of and decide what you must have, what would be nice and what you could live without. Then go on the internet and Google what you want.

Do your own research

It is easy to check-out the site of the company for you to review details regarding the rental property. If the current listing photos don’t tell the whole story, ask for additional, up-to-date photos to help you assess the property. Find reviews of the property on the web if possible or ask the owner for references. If there’s a way you can visit a property in advance. Scope the area for nearby attractions.

Review the Contract

Before you give a single thought to reserving a vacation rental and paying the advance deposit, make sure you have a contract in your hands, Verbal agreements are worthless. Not only is a written contract standard for any rental transaction, it should be carefully reviewed. What’s the cancellation policy? Is the deposit refundable? Is there a cleaning service or are you responsible for tidying up? It is very important to have a second look of the contract and make sure that you understand it very well. You can ask a guidance of a liable lawyer to help you understand the contract and discuss its legalities.

Make a deal

If you feel confident about your chosen vacation rental, confirm your travel dates and reserve the property before anyone else does.
